If Clause + Main Clause

4 types:

1. Zero conditional

  • Habitual Actions: Always, Never, Often, Usually, Sometimes, Rarely, Seldom, Frequently, Occasionally, for a long time, every (day, week, month, etc.)
  • 100% Result, Universal truth
  • Both clauses: Simple Present

2. First Conditional

  • Specific future events – not 100% sure
  • If clause (Present) - will/may/can or should (for advice)

3. Second Conditional

  • Present/Future imaginary
  • V2/were - would/could/might + v1

4. Third Conditional

  • Past imaginary
  • Had v3 – would/could/might + have v3
